In Screen Time, you can block apps and notifications for periods when you want time away from your devices. For example, you might want to schedule downtime during meals or at bedtime.
Go to Settings
> Screen Time, then turn on Screen Time if you haven’t already

Invoke Downtime by pressing the corresponding button.

Time ranges can be specified by choosing either Every Day or Custom Days.
During non-work hours, you'll have access to only the contacts, messages, and apps you specifically allow. During downtime, you'll be able to get calls from people you've authorized to contact you, and you'll have access to the apps you've authorized to use at all times.
When you activate on-demand downtime, a reminder will be sent to you five minutes beforehand. As long as it is scheduled, it will remain on until the end of the day or the start of your downtime.

Open the Preferences menu
Access Settings > Screen Time and activate Screen Time if you haven't already.

Select Downtime, and then either Turn On Downtime Until Tomorrow or (if Scheduled is active) Turn On Downtime Until Schedule.
Select Turn Off Downtime to pause the service whenever you want.
Keep in mind that you can activate family members' downtime whenever you like by using Family Sharing or by going directly to their device.
Both app categories (like "games") and individual apps (like "social networking") can have their usage time limits restricted.

Select Preferences
Activate Screen Time if it hasn't been done already

Select App Restrictions, then Add New Limit.

Choose one or more app types
Tap the category name to see all the apps in that category, then select the apps for which you want to set limits. Any time limit you set for one category or app will be applied to all of those you have chosen.

Select the time limit by tapping Next.
Use the Customize Days option to limit certain days to a certain amount of time.

After you've finished establishing parameters, select Add.
On the App Limits screen, select App Limits to temporarily disable restrictions on all apps. By selecting the category and then tapping the App Limit button, you can temporarily disable the time limit.
To remove a category's time restriction, select it and then select Delete Limit.
With Screen Time, you can set parameters for when and how you'll receive and make calls, video calls, and text messages from specific iCloud contacts.

Turn on iCloud Contacts in Settings if you haven't already.
To enable Contacts, go to > [your name > iCloud.

Proceed to the Preferences menu
If you haven't already, go to Settings > Screen Time and activate Screen Time.

Select one of the following for always-on communication (outside of downtime) by going to Communication Limits > During Screen Time.

To restrict access to your contacts only for the purposes of communicating with them

Groups with at Least One Contact: To restrict group chats to those in which at least one of the participants is in your contacts, and to limit one-on-one chats to those in which at least one of the participants is in your contacts.

Allowing for communication with anyone, including anonymous callers

Select "Back" from the top left menu, then "Downtime"
During Screen Time is currently set to the option you chose. Select Specific Contacts and then one of the following options:

Assigning a new contact to your phone's address book makes it easier to stay in touch with that person even when you're not actively using your phone.

Calls and messages from people who are currently blacklisted by your Communication Limit settings will not be delivered.
Your recent calls and messages history will highlight the blocked contact in red if you try to call or message them while they are currently blocked by your Communication Limit settings. You'll be able to talk to them once the restriction on your communications is lifted. A Time Limit alert will appear if the restriction applies only to scheduled maintenance. When the downtime is over, you can pick up the conversation again.
By adjusting your Communication Limit settings as described above, you can restore communication with previously blocked contacts.
Screen Time lets you choose which apps and people can be used at any time, even when you're not actively using your device.

Click Allow under the list of compatible programs.

Select Contacts to choose who you'll allow to communicate with you.
